As the smoldering ashes of their once thriving planet dim farther and farther away, the AI plots a course and begins its unlikely quest for a new home. The ship carries precious cargo: within its sleeper pods, a thousand colonists lie dormant. They are the last sons and daughters of planet Earth. The journey is long. As the AI encounters new bodies, it scans and probes for atmosphere, gravity, traces of water and minerals and local wildlife, assessing the possibility for colonies to survive. The AI steers the ship through radiation storms, large areas of debris and interstellar dust, gathering data and maintaining integrity of the sleeper pods and internal systems. Instead of despair, the cosmic silence nurtures hope and the AI presses on.
